What is CASPER? Hospice reporting system

CASPER is where a hospice reads its HQRP compliance percentage, quality-measure scores, and HOPE submission history. Every hospice QAPI, IT, and compliance lead should be able to pull CASPER reports on demand.

CASPER, in one sentence

CASPER is the CMS reporting portal hospices use to see their HQRP submission compliance, quality-measure results, and provider-level feedback reports.

What CASPER shows

HOPE submission acknowledgment status, HQRP compliance percentage, provider-level quality-measure results (once available), and downloadable feedback reports.

Who has access

CASPER access is granted at the provider level and typically shared among the QAPI lead, IT admin, and compliance officer. Access is provisioned through the QIES portal via the state agency or CMS.

How often to pull CASPER

Weekly during a submission cycle. Monthly for a stable quality dashboard. Any time a HOPE workflow change happens, pull CASPER to confirm the change did not break submission.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get CASPER access?
Access is provisioned through the CMS QIES / iQIES system. Your state agency’s hospice liaison or your MAC can point you to the correct enrollment path.
Is CASPER the same as iQIES?
They are related. iQIES is where HOPE data is submitted; CASPER is where reports about that submission and its resulting quality scores are read.
Does CASPER show CAHPS results?
CAHPS results are typically reported through a separate CAHPS vendor portal plus publicly-reported CMS displays; CASPER handles HOPE-related HQRP data.
